After weighing up all the options, I finally took the plunge and bought the Instant Pot 5.7L (6-Quart).

Now that it is unboxed and sitting on my kitchen counter, I want to share the exact tips that helped me choose this model, and why the 5.7L size might just be the perfect fit for your kitchen too.

1. Deciding on the Right Size (Why Size Matters)

The most common question people ask is: What size Instant Pot should I buy? The brand generally offers three main sizes: 3-litre, 5.7-litre, and 8-litre.

  • The 3-Litre (Mini)Best for single households or side dishes. It is too small for batch cooking or whole chickens.
  • The 5.7-Litre (The Sweet Spot)This is the most popular size for a reason. It comfortably feeds a family of 2 to 5 people, fits a whole chicken, and is perfect for weekly meal prep without taking over your entire counter.
  • The 8-Litre (The XL)Great for large families (6+ people) or serious batch-cooking, but it has a massive footprint and takes longer to come up to pressure.

For me, the 5.7L is the perfect compromise. It gives me enough room to make large batches of soup or chili to freeze for later, but it still fits easily inside my kitchen cupboards.

2. Key Tips for Choosing Your Model

Once you pick a size, you have to choose the specific model series (like the Duo, Duo Plus, or Pro). Here are three quick tips to keep in mind when choosing:

  • Check the Lid Design: Look for models that feature an automatic sealing valve or an easy-release switch. Older models require you to manually turn a valve, which can be a bit intimidating with the hot steam.
  • Look at the Screen: A bright, clear digital progress bar makes a huge difference. It takes the guesswork out of waiting because you can see exactly when the pot is preheating, cooking, or venting.
  • Consider the Inner Pot: Make sure your model comes with a stainless steel inner pot with an aluminium core. This ensures even heating and means you can safely scrub it clean or pop it in the dishwasher.

I use to have a cheap pressure cooker and found it didn’t make the meat as tender as my sister’s instant pot.

When I did some research and found that they aren’t all built the same, they might get to pressure but not as a high pressure like a higher end one like the instant pot.

I actually found this one on a deal for half price so jumped at finally making my own meals with tender meat.

It hasn’t disappointed, it’s super quick easy to clean up and I like that it has a stainless steel pan instead of a non stick one.
