How to Style a Maxi Dress for a Sunny Winter Day

When the sun finally comes out in the middle of winter, sometimes I like to change it up from wearing trousers. I really wanted to wear something a bit nicer today, but the challenge is always trying to stay warm without looking like a marshmallow!

My absolute favorite outfit trick right now is styling a long-sleeved maxi dress with some cozy layers.

Here is exactly how I put this look together for a crisp, sunny winter day out.

1. The Main Piece: The Long Dress

I really love this long-sleeved maxi dress. Because it is long, it keeps the cold wind off my legs. Plus, the dark pattern looks great on its own so I don’t have to worry about adding a ton of jewelry or accessories to make it look nice.

This dress is from Farmers but I got it secondhand. It probably retails for around $150 but I got it for around $8.

Having long sleeves also adds warmth. I love the way it fits me as it stretches well but not over my mum tum.

2. Comfy Shoes: White Trainers

To keep things casual and comfy for walking around, I paired the dress with my favorite white trainers. It instantly makes the dress look less formal, which is perfect for running errands or grabbing a casual lunch.

It could be easily dressed up with some smarter shoes.

3. Staying Warm: My Long Puffer and Scarf

To make sure I didn’t freeze, I threw on my long puffer jacket over the top. Then I added a nice soft scarf around my neck. This keeps me super warm but still lets the pretty dress pop out from underneath the coat.

For extra warmth if I knew I was going to be outside a long time or sat in a park, I could add long knee high socks or a jumper or cardigan.
